What a great page by Runner's World's Nick Weldon: 'The Best Running Facial Hair of All-Time'.

I don't have much to add, but if you're planning a race and you want to run with some style, be sure to check it out at Runner's World.

The Jericho Mile

The Jericho Mile is a tv movie from 1979, in which a man is in Folsom prison – for life. He's not interested in anything other than running and gets scouted by a running coach. After a tragic situation (no spoiler here!) he tries to qualify for the olympics.

The movie is some forty years old and it shows, but apart from that, the movie is great. I sometimes feel not all actors are up to speed, and the dialogues sometimes feel a bit forced, but overall, it's a great watch. The movie did win an Emmy Award, so it's by no means an obscure, unknown movie. A bit forgotten nowadays, I guess.

Oh, something else – The Rolling Stones' Sympathy for the Devil plays at just the right moments in this movie.

Forrest Gump

Everyone knows this movie from 1994, right? Well, everyone knows 'Run, Forrest, Run!', but I for one hadn't seen the movie. I had seen bits and pieces before, but a month or so ago me and my wife – who had seen this classic and found it ridiculous that I hadn't seen it before – watched it. Not in the last part because we went to the States this summer and saw the Bubba Gump Shrimp Shop in LA. I even bought a Bubba Gump shirt, so I should only be allowed to wear that after I've seen the movie, right?

It's an intriguing movie about a kid with a low IQ, but, as you'll notice, has a big heart and basically escapes bullying and other problems by running and running fast. Running itself is featured a lot in this movie, but not in terms of races. At one point, Forrest decides to just run through the USA and he gathers a following of people taking inspiration from his runs. We all know running can be inspiring, don't we?

Meatballs (1979)

This early Bill Murray-comedy is no movie about running, but a fairly typical summer camp movie – dad sends kid to summer camp, he doesn't want to go and has trouble making friends, makes friends in the end. Running is featured, however, as the grand finale between two rivalry summer camps (after a hotdog-eating contest, some swimming et cetera).

This movie's from 1979 and it shows. It's still funny, but I guess you'll have really like Bill Murray or be in that summer-camp-movie mood to enjoy it. Or sit through it and wait for the running, of course.
