Character counter added to Word counter
Abstracts for conferences mostly are limit to a certain number of words, but sometimes the organising committee instead decides on a number of characters. I always find that somewhat inconvenient, because you have to resort to tools other than your standard Word processor to check the number of characters while writing. Atop, I roughly have an idea of how much information I can provide in, say, 400 words, but 3000 characters? No clue. I feel setting a number of characters also limits the ‘creativeness’ authors sometimes employ to stay within the word limit, but I guess that’s the point.
Anyway, to solve the ‘problem’ above, I added a character counter to the word-count tool at https://www.reuneker.nl/files/wordcount.

Character counter
As with words, you can also set a target number of characters and the tool will automatically show you during typing how much characters you have left or still need to remove. I find it useful and I hope you will too!
PS In the screenshot, you see an abstract for VIOT 2026, which set a limit of 3000 characters. I only have three characters left (see bottom-right corner)...
